The “Mansion With A Mission”
Third Street Alliance for Women & Children offers shelter services for homeless women, women with children, and families.
The women residing at Third Street Alliance have become homeless for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is as common as losing a job and having no support system or savings plan in place. Sometimes a debilitating disease takes its toll before disability benefits can be accessed. Sometimes the path is more complex, winding around alcohol, drug, physical and/or emotional abuse before ending abruptly at homelessness.
The shelter program allows women and families to begin working on much more than a housing issue, but working on the whole person through set goals. Those goals could be to receive education to find a better-paying job to seeing a doctor for a routine check-up.
The women are also given the opportunity to attend workshops on finances, physical and mental health, parenting topics, communication issues, self-esteem and more.
The Simon Mansion provides a safe space for families to catch their breath and regain their footing in life–we are the mansion with a mission.
Starting the Process
Third Street Alliance for Women & Children is one of the walk-in centers for the Coordinated Entry system within the Lehigh Valley. Coordinated Entry is a community’s housing crisis response system for people experiencing or are at-risk for homelessness. It is an effective process for helping people find the housing and services they need to end their housing crisis as quickly and successfully as possible.
To begin the process, call 2-1-1 and talk with a trained representative. For more resources in the Lehigh Valley, lot onto http://www.pa211east.org and click the Northampton County tab.
