All We Have Done

Can you believe it’s December?

I know I can’t. The cooler weather reminds me each morning as I walk to work.

This month becomes busy for a lot of people, especially for those who are preparing to celebrate the holidays and who are wrapping up the year.

But it’s hard to wrap up 2016 and tie a bow around it. There wouldn’t be enough wrapping paper, as usual (at least in my home).

This year we’ve seen a lot of people come through our shelter program and have shared their sense of relief at making a safe landing in the community.

We have watched our students learn and grow right before our eyes, witnessing their achievements.

Our senior clients experienced new things, such as henna tattoos. They also put on a fashion show, proving you’re only as old as you feel.

We’ve received help from the community, from smaller item donations, such as art materials and hair care products, to larger items, such as a freezer.

We’ve seen the kindness of others enacted each day. We’ve been floored with your support every passing week.

When I first came to Third Street Alliance in June, I didn’t know what to anticipate. I knew my new job would be rewarding, but I didn’t expect to really see the impact that the community has on Third Street Alliance each day—and the impact we have on the community.

The past (almost) six months have left me speechless, something a writer should never be—without words. But I’m looking forward to seeing what the everyday brings in the New Year.

As 2017 looms closer, we will be thinking up new ways to reach out to the community and I hope you will reach back and connect with us.

But, until then, have a wonderful holiday season, from the #MansionWithAMission.
