Our Resident Shelter was selected as one of five shelters across the country for an Enchanted Makeover. The Enchanted Makeover Company is on tour visiting shelters whose focus is on helping women and children. At each shelter they install a Sacred Sewing Room, a safe place where women can learn sewing skills from volunteer teachers and heal through the therapeutic benefits of sewing. Our room has been outfitted with all necessary supplies including four brand new Baby Lock sewing machines. Third Street Alliance is excited to be involved in a program that values empowering women and building their confidence.
The reveal of our Sacred Sewing Room was this past weekend, July 19th. We are thrilled that so many community members could come out to support Enchanted Makeovers and Third Street Alliance for Women and Children. We had a visit from both the current and a former Easton mayors. Additionally, we were honored to see a former resident of Third Street Alliance and his son. They look forward to learning the life-long skill of sewing in this new room as well. Sewing lessons are currently being arranged and will be taught by volunteers from the community.
The theme of this makeover was inspired by “Grandma’s House.” There were four rooms involved in this makeover. Features include a sitting porch, grandma’s kitchen, a powder room, and a dining room where the sewing will take place. On the walls are nostalgic murals, quotes, and memorabilia. An important aspect of each Sacred Sewing Room is a quote from Maya Angelou. Our quote is, “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”
We feel so blessed to be involved in this process and our fortunate to be able to better provide for the families and individuals that come through our doors. If you have any resources or would like a tour of the renovations, please stop by Third Street Alliance. Our doors are always open.
