Pool-to-School Update

Over the past few years we have been working on a major classroom expansion project at Third Street Alliance transforming what used to be our swimming pool into state-of-the-art classrooms. We’re happy to announce that the project is finally coming to a close!

As with any construction project, challenges presented themselves but we overcame the obstacles with the help of Boyle Construction and the building committee. We wholeheartedly believe that this is an effort worth fighting for, as now more than ever our community needs early childhood education centers.

Some Benefits of High-Quality Child Care Include:

  • Improved language & math skills
  • Higher earning potential for parents
  • Increased high school & college graduation
  • Increased job retention & productivity

Not-So-Fun Fact:
55 local early learning centers permanently closed between March 2020 and September 2021.

“Unfortunately, in our local area over 80% of children under 5 years old coming from low-income families are not receiving early childhood learning opportunities,” says Nicole Recker, the Director of The Learning Center since December 2022, “so we are actively working to increase the number of children we serve.”

Nicole Recker has been at Third Street Alliance for 8 years now, previously holding the position of Assistant Director of The Learning Center. She has seen the growth that The Learning Center has made over time and believes that this new expansion is exactly what the Early Learning program and the local community needs.

“Not only are the new classrooms opening up spots for 44 children to receive high-quality early childhood education, but they are also creating 7 living-wage jobs for teachers in the community,” Recker states.
