In the development department we are accustomed to seeing the generosity of our friends and neighbors, and we are excited to share with you some of what we recently experienced.
Not a week passed in August when an individual or group wasn’t helping to spread our mission or inviting others into our space to do remarkable events.
We started the month with MOD Super-Fast Pizza holding a fundraiser for TSA. MOD has been a wonderful partner, having held several fundraisers inviting the community to eat pizza and help raise funds for us.
In mid-August, the Green Pond Ladies Golf Club held their annual golf tournament, this year benefitting TSA. The group raised more than $3,000, and donated a large car full of items from our wish list. We were overwhelmed with the support from these generous women.
At the same time TSA was a drop-off location for the No Child Left Behind event, organized by business owner and community member Stephen Flowers. The event gave free haircuts and school supplies to Easton Area School District students.
Hundreds of adults and children came through the doors of TSA on Aug. 21. At the event children received backpacks, school supplies, hair products and other items and were invited to do an art project.
Volunteers handed out at least 300 back packs and gave haircuts to 186 children. All the hairstylists volunteered their time and talents for the day.
For one TSA shelter family, the event was a blessing. The girls were excited to go to the gym that morning and receive supplies and haircuts. Mom was simply thankful. She didn’t know how she was going to afford the back-to-school items for her middle and elementary school daughters. Another mother commented that it was the first time her sons has professional haircuts, as she had always cut their hair at home.
These children started the year off right, with their new supplies and haircuts, made possible by community members that want to make a difference.
